I had a job like this funny enough. I cleaned out hoarders houses. There was one in particular that I’ll never forget. Not only was there a room filled with dolls, as my friend and I was cleaning out the basement, I was taking stuff off of a shelf, and I heard a bunch of stuff shuffling around behind me. I thought it was my friend, so I said something to him, and got no response. Turns out, he hadn’t been down there for a while cause he was on his break. I was alone. I didn’t say anything to any of the guys working with me, until they each asked me if I noticed anything weird in the basement. All of us experienced the same thing separately. We looked around and couldn’t find any evidence of animals. No idea what it was. I have a chronic illness where I don’t produce cortisol though, so it didn’t scare me. Nobody else wanted to go down there so I spent hours down there alone, and the shuffling never stopped.

So super late but on the off chance someone wants more info on the sleep problems: I've personally experienced most types of them and regularly get startled by insects that don't exist when I'm waking up. They're not lucid dreams, they happen outside of REM sleep while you're falling asleep or waking up. For hallucinations the brain starts switching over to dream mode without shutting down real senses first. For sleep paralysis the brain shuts down motor control too early, typically while also inducing a hallucination too early. They're really just an annoyance for most people. I cope by not believing what I see for a couple minutes when I wake up, and honestly the huge imaginary spiders I sometimes wake up to are kind of amusing in a way. Anyway Sharky was fine, there's not really a trigger for these things. I hope this comment helps someone who's also been dealing with these problems!
